Compass Tenders - Every Home Needs a House Cat
Whilst Compass Tenders may be best known for their full-custom limousine, sports and utility tenders, designed and built to accompany some the most iconic superyachts in the world, a recent project requiring a ‘tender’ of completely different sorts gave the UK-based company opportunity to flex their creative muscles.
“I like to think of it as a house tender,” comments Richard Faulkner, founder and CEO of Compass Tenders. “This client came to us with a distinct set of requirements. He wanted a day boat for excursions from his waterfront Bahamas property, but a boat with the ability to serve as a more versatile platform for water sports, fishing trips and socializing as well, and something capable of handling both the shallow Bahamian bays and open sea.”
With that brief, the design team at Compass Tenders set to work and quickly landed on a catamaran hull configuration as the answer. “We’ve built several catamaran tenders for superyachts already, with clients recognizing the versatility of space they offer, and we jumped at the opportunity to develop this design in a new direction,” says Faulkner.
The result is a catamaran day boat with an exceptionally large deck area, seating for as many as 20 guests, and galley facilities akin with much larger luxury yachts.
The catamaran’s wide beam of 4.4 meters, gives it enormous scope of use. The forward section can be used to transport scuba diving cylinders, SeaBobs, stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, mountain bikes, even a quad bike – it’s able to take a weight of 1,000kg, depending on the sea conditions.
The catamaran is boarded through doors in either side of the hull, with passengers stepping into the spacious section in front of the helm console. Guests can also step aboard via the aft swim platform or, when embarking direct from the beach, through the bow door that unfolds and extends like a passerelle to meet the shore.
To aft, the catamaran features plenty of seating and two tables for relaxed dining. Not only can this boat boast fridges, a sink, an L-shaped galley top and various stowage draws, but a BBQ grill can also be included at the stern so your catch of the day can become the day’s lunch!
Ensuring onboard comfort for extended excursions, the catamaran is equipped with a shower compartment, toilet, and hand basin.
The vessel is powered by petrol outboards, achieving a top speed in excess of 45 knots. Thanks to the catamaran’s stability, high-speed passages are completed in easy comfort, with smooth, fast transit between locations. With a draft of just 0.9 meters, access is permitted to most cruising grounds and anchorages.
The catamaran is the perfect accompaniment to a waterfront home. For a satellite watersports hub, luxury mode of waterborne transport, and day boat for use with family and friends, there is no more capable craft.
Compass have now added the stand-alone catamaran day boat, the ‘House Tender’, to their range and offer it in lengths between 10 and 13 meters.
