The Grand Debut of Eden Gallery Dubai
As a beacon of culture in the Gulf Nations and the broader Middle East, the United Arab Emirates has become a haven for expats and visitors hailing from all over the world. Dubai, perhaps the most well-known Emirate, is especially known for its opulent culture that places emphasis on the value of high-end aesthetics. While long considered a hub of culture, Dubai has not seen an international art gallery appear until recently. Eden Gallery, a major gallery network with 10 locations around the world, has just opened its doors in The Dubai Mall, the biggest mall in the world. Eden Gallery Dubai is perfectly situated between designer ateliers and boasts its usual unique and prestigious roster of contemporary artists including Alec Monopoly, David Kracov, Eduardo Kobra, Angelo Accardi, Gal Yosef, and others. It’s easy to lose oneself in the sprawling, bright 11,000 sq ft of space filled with Eden’s extensive collection of artworks, each unique in their own way, drawing inspiration from history, artistic movements, and culture. The variety in media is impressive. Some artworks–such as those by Alec Monopoly–perfectly reflect and blend into Dubai’s cultural landscape, while others by artists like Yoel Benharrouche, Eduardo Kobra, Daniel Gastuad and Angelo Accardi stand out with influences from spirituality, pop art, and street art.
In an exciting debut, the gallery’s grand opening week saw hundreds of people visiting Eden Gallery Dubai in March 2022. With Alec Monopoly as one of Eden Gallery’s bestselling artists, a second event was held for his work, to smashing success. There was a crowd of over 1,000 people bustling around the gallery against the backdrop of Alec’s special edition artworks made for the Dubai gallery. Alec showed up to the event in person, and he did more than just show up–his grand entrance included driving up in an Alec themed car decked out in his signature logo and dollar bill motif.
With a massive fan base including celebrities, Alec Monopoly’s art has been a huge success in high-end echelons of pop culture. It was no surprise, then, that he and his art were celebrated with such excitement and enthusiasm in Dubai. Alec could be seen in his top hat, mingling with guests while simultaneously spray painting a mural inside the mall measuring 520x383 cm | 204x150 in. Guests were dancing to tunes from a live DJ, which eventually became Alec himself, alongside a performance by a professional dance crew.
The artworks in Alec’s special Hermes Collection, which had a bright orange background with the Hermes logo and Alec’s Monopoly characters spray painted on top, were bought straight off the wall of the gallery one after another. The entire collection was sold out on the opening night alone, made all the more meaningful by Alec’s presence. He made several dedications for collectors, took pictures with flurried fans, and showed his passion for his iconic art.
With its Dubai grand opening putting Eden Gallery in a position of further success, the momentum has not slowed as thousands of visitors, tourists, and locals come to visit the Dubai gallery each day. Located in one of the most iconic malls in the world, it is a magnificent must-see as one of the Gulf Nations’ biggest commercial art galleries.
