A Pillar of Bold Style & Revolutionary Design

Soaring 92 stories above heart of Chicago, Trump International Hotel and Tower® Chicago has earned iconic status and stands out from the competition, not only for its physical structure but for its world-class amenities, impeccable service, and luxury status. With an incredible location next to the landmark Wrigley Building and right on the river at North Wabash, Trump Chicago boasts breathtaking views of the city, its landmarks, Lake Michigan, and the Chicago River.

Designed by the renowned design firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the same minds behind some of the world’s most recognizable buildings, including One World Trade Center and many others, the tower utterly transforms the city’s skyline. Throughout the building’s inception, over 50 models were presented before a final design was selected and various local community groups, the Department of Planning and the brightest minds in the Architectural scene in Chicago were consulted to bring about the final product.

The end result was a showcase of innovative design, one that would go on to serve as the inspiration for Dubai’s Burj Khalifa. At 92 stories and 1,389 feet tall, Trump International Hotel & Tower is the tallest reinforced concrete building in the world and the fourth tallest building in the United States. The building is made up of 2.6 million gross square feet, 486 residential condominiums, and 354 hotel condominiums and boasts the fastest elevators in North America, with travel from ground to top in an impressive 45 seconds. The ride is so smooth that passengers hardly feel the motion – an ear pop or two is all that signals the incredible speed and height they are traveling.

One of the most impressive architectural details is a glass wall surrounding the entire lower ground and mezzanine level. It is suspended from above and each piece is unique, gradually indenting into a wave pattern. Glass and windows play an important role in Trump Chicago, and the building is characterized by its 11,000 glass panels, all designed to withstand hurricane level, 200 MPH winds – an important element in a place nicknamed “The Windy City.” The top floor of residences is a sprawling 14,500 square feet, occupying the entire 89th floor, with almost unbelievable 20 feet tall floor-to-ceiling windows. Windows that high are nearly unheard of at the top of a building as tall as Trump Chicago.

The tower’s three tiers add a sculptural element to the city’s skyline while simultaneously modulating the winds for which Chicago is so well-known. Deeply intentional, the tiers are coordinated to match the heights of the tower’s neighboring properties, the Wrigley Building, the River Plaza, and Marina City Towers, adding to the balance of the landscape and providing optical continuity. The architectural boat tours of the city, which dock at the Trump plaza, show off the tower at its most impressive, soaring over the Chicago River and enhancing the city’s dramatic visual appeal.

In June 2010, Trump International Hotel & Tower Spire illuminated the Chicago skyline for the first time. The steel spire itself is 227 feet tall and soars 1,389 feet into the sky. While it is an architectural feature, there is a practical, fiberglass element as well, allowing the spire to be used for broadcasting purposes. Solid white lights emanate from the spire nightly, but, similar to the Empire State Building in New York City, the lighting changes to pay tribute to holidays, Chicago-centric celebrations, and momentous occasions. Using LED high performance architectural floodlights, its radiance extends more than 800 feet in every direction and can produce any color on the spectrum. The light show effects have been warmly received by visitors and residents alike and it has become a Chicago landmark that we are proud to have provided for this amazing city. It is struck by lightning approximately 150 times a year’ and on a stormy night, you might be able to catch the spectacle for yourself. The spire is also home to Norman, a peregrine falcon that has been known to sit atop Trump Chicago and dive down from the roof, hitting speeds of 200 MPH.

In the years since opening to world-wide acclaim in 2009, Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago, has received a multitude of accolades and has become one of Chicago’s most enviable addresses. It has received the highly coveted AAA Five Diamond Award every year since 2011. Just one year after opening, it was listed as the #1 Hotel in North America by Conde Nast Traveler – a feat virtually unheard of for a hotel in its first year of operation. It been listed by Conde Nast Traveler’s Gold List for “Hotels We Travel To Just for the Food” and made their “Gold List: The Top Hotels in the World” in 2016 and 2014. It is consistently on the top of the most elite hotels of the world lists and has found a warm welcome by the residents of Chicago for its elegant and sophisticated Rebar lounge and Terrace 16 restaurant + bar, which boast unrivaled views of Navy Pier’s weekly fireworks show. A legendary city deserves a legendary hotel to match, and Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago has delivered just that.
